The Dragon's Bride by Katee Robert

Briar Rose might have a name out of a storybook, but she learned at a very young age that no prince was coming to save her. She’ll have to save herself. Unfortunately, even that is an impossible task in her current situation—trapped in a terrifying marriage to a dangerous man.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, which is how she finds herself making a deal with a demon. Freedom from her husband…in return for seven years of service.
She expects the service to be backbreaking and harsh. She doesn’t expect to be put on an auction block in a room full of literal monsters and sold to the highest bidder.
To Sol.
A dragon.
He might seem kinder than his fearsome looks imply, but she knows better than to trust the way he wants to take care of her, or how invested he is in her pleasure. In her experience, if something seems too good to be true, it certainly is.
Falling for Sol is out of the question. She’s suffered enough, and she has no intention of staying in this realm…even if she leaves her heart behind when she returns to her normal life.
My Review:

The Dragon's Bride was a pleasant surprise for me. I was looking for a short and fun romance book that would fully capture my attention, and this one did. I won’t lie, there were a few things that still surprised me—my bad, since they were all mentioned before starting the book—but I decided to let it go and keep reading because I was already engaged in the story.
I liked the idea of a demon offering deals to desperate people, only for it to end in an auction to other demons. The demon characters were interesting, and I’m curious to see what the series has in store for the other couples.
It was short and smutty, as expected—very hot scenes and a quick development of the story. But it was well-written, and I couldn't stop reading. Briar was insecure and unsure of what to expect after her previous abusive relationship, but Sol was totally different. A dragon, he was a surprising and sweet character who showed her patience and care. I have a soft spot for dragons, and he definitely fit the bill—sweet, patient, and obviously very hot in the bedroom. It was an unexpectedly sweet story at times, but still, it was very spicy/naughty, so beware.
I'd recommend it if you’re already familiar with this genre of books or if you’re looking to venture into something new (but make sure to read the warnings first). I plan to continue with the series—A Deal With a Demon—and I already have the second book, The Kraken's Sacrifice, on my TBR list. Each book features a different demon/human couple, so I’m not sure what to expect from the bedroom scenes or if I’ll like them, but I’m definitely curious. This was my first time reading Katee Robert, but I’ve discovered several other books by her that I'm now interested in.
