Book review: The Gargoyle's Captive by Katee Robert

The Gargoyle's Captive by Katee Robert

A Deal With a Demon #3

Goodreads | Amazon

Grace is a monster hunter who went into her demon deal with eyes wide open. Years ago, her mother made the same choice and was never seen again, and the answers Grace seeks can only be found in the demon realm.

She doesn’t care that she’s auctioned off to a gargoyle. She doesn’t plan to stay with him longer than strictly necessary.

Unfortunately, she didn’t read the small print of her contract.

Every time she tries to escape, she’s transported back into Bram’s tender care. He never hurts her, never punishes her, just meets her fury with an easy charm she doesn’t know how to fight.

She doesn’t mean to give in, to stop fighting. But the moment she does, she starts to forget what brought her to this place and what her goals are. After a life starved of pleasure, she’s all willing to let Bram seduce her again and again…

At least until the past comes calling.

My Review:

The Gargoyle’s Captive is the third book in the Deal with a Demon series. This time, the gargoyle Bram selects monster hunter Grace as his 'future wife' to produce powerful offspring. The premise alone set up a story that had so much potential given the circumstances.

It was clear from the start that Bram and Grace were connected, which added an element of inevitable conflict to their relationship. I appreciated that their attraction was mutual from day one, but unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy Bram’s character as much. His insecurity due to his family history often made him feel weak in comparison to Grace, who stood out as a strong and determined protagonist. However, over time, Grace’s strength helped Bram become more self-assured, which added a nice arc to his development.

While The Gargoyle’s Captive had an engaging setup, I felt like it could have explored its themes and conflicts in this realm even further, it seemed like we only read a little piece of a longer story. That said, fans of the series who enjoy monster romance with a touch of inner growth will likely appreciate this addition. It wasn’t my favorite in the series, but it still had its moments of intrigue and character development.
