Book Review: The Kraken's Sacrifice by Katee Robert

The Kraken's Sacrifice by Katee Robert

A Deal With a Demon #2

Goodreads | Amazon

Catalina only made her deal with the demon because she had nowhere else to go. The world has kicked her every chance it got, so she’s all too happy to leave the realm she knows behind. What’s the worst that could happen?

She doesn’t anticipate being auctioned away to a kraken.

Thane is cold and distant…but he’s not unkind. Isolated as they are, Catalina finds herself seeking his company again and again. And when she finally agrees to uphold her portion of the bargain?

That’s when things get really interesting.

But she only gave the demon seven years, and when the time is up, she’ll have no choice but to leave behind the kraken who’s stolen her heart and return to the world that doesn’t want her.

My Review:

I started the Deal with a Demon series by reading The Dragon’s Bride, so I already had an idea of what to expect from The Kraken’s Sacrifice and honestly was kind of curious. The premise of the series revolves around powerful, monstrous male protagonists who enter into marriages with humans, aiming to produce strong offspring.

While the concept remains intriguing, The Kraken’s Sacrifice wasn’t my favorite read in the series. Catalina, the protagonist, often struggled with insecurity (and maybe ADHD?), which made it difficult for me to fully connect with her. Meanwhile, Thane, the kraken-like hero, is still deep in the throes of grief and made lots of mistakes taking care of Catalina. This emotional weight created a much heavier tone for their story, making their relationship feel more complicated and, at times, emotionally draining. Compared to The Dragon’s Bride, I found this installment to be slower in pacing and more focused on emotional turmoil than romantic chemistry.

That said, fans of the Deal with a Demon series who enjoy slow-burn, emotionally charged romances may appreciate The Kraken’s Sacrifice more than I did. While it wasn’t my favorite, I still admire the bold storytelling and unique take on monster romance that Katee Robert continues to deliver and I'm very curious about some of the other characters.
