Movie Review: The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner is based on the books written by James Dashner. I haven't read any of the books, I know they were really popular, but I wasn't interested. I wasn't sure about the movie either, but I really liked it! I watched it at home and usually at home I get distracted, but not with this movie.

The story was mostly new to me, I knew a group of boys were trapped inside a maze, but that was it. So I really enjoyed the development of the movie. Why are they there? Who put them there? It kind of reminded me to another movie, Cube, which scared me a lot, and also to Lords of the flies.

It's a movie full of action, everything happens fasts. The maze is dangerous, but I think more dangerous was having all of those boys trapped inside and fighting for dominance. Personally, I'd have been one of the people that wanted to find an exit, even if that meant getting lost at the maze.

I think what I liked more were the surprises, eventually finding out why were they there, and the ending, ¡wow! I wasn't expecting that. Now I want to see the next movie: The Scorch Trials.

Have you seen The Maze Runner? Did you like it? Have you read the books?

  1. I haven't read the books either. From things I've heard about the second and third books, I'm waiting after the movies come out to see if I'll want to read them then.

I did like the movie a lot. I thought it was fun and really interesting. I kind of wish I hadn't heard all the negativity surrounding the second and third books. Otherwise, I'd read them just based on the movie.

  2. I quite enjoyed the movie, but seriously thought the premise was the shakiest thing ever. Like, at the end when they explain why everyone was in the maze and things- such a ridiculous reason haha. The action was good enough that I didn't really care overall though :P

  3. Glad that you enjoyed the movie! I read the book when it first came out and remember it was okay, but didn't like it enough to read the others. Not really my type of book, but might enjoy the movie just for seeing the maze in real life. Thanks for a great review!

  4. I have read the books and I also enjoyed them a lot. I did like the movie but I found it to be a bit slow paced at the beginning although it did pick up a bit more at the end and middle! The movie deviated from the books a bit, but I didn't mind it too much. I am curious to know what they will do with the second movie as well.
