Waiting on Wednesday # 103 - Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.
In her exquisitely written fantasy debut, Rachel Hartman creates a rich, complex, and utterly original world. Seraphina's tortuous journey to self-acceptance is one readers will remember long after they've turned the final page.

Book Review: Wicked Nights + Q & A with Gena Showalter

Author: Gena Showalter
Series: Angels of the Dark #1
Release Date: June 26th, 2012
Publisher: HQN Books
Age: Adult
Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless-and if he isn't careful, he'll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions, at any cost...until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he's never known before.

Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation-or her ultimate damnation?
I love the Lords of the Underworld series, so when I got the chance to review Wicked Nights, I couldn't say no!

Zacharel is one of the angels we met in the previous series, but I wasn't sure I was going to like him....I was wrong! He's very cold and ruthless, but he's still a very 'innocent' angel and I couldn't help falling in love with him.

Annabelle is a young woman who has been constantly tracked and attacked by demons. Zacharel knows she's a demon consort, but he can't leave her suffering more. They are attracted to each other and soon they are enjoying themselves, but Zacharel heart's starts to warm and he can't let her go...he will save her, even if it means fighting with his past.

What I like about Gena Showalter's writing is that's it's so easy to read. I start to read and can't stop, it's full of action, never bores me and the couples, in this case Annabelle and Zacharel, are always on fire. So if you like hot and dark angels, you need to read the Angels of the Dark series. It introduce us to the world of almost-falling angels that I wouldn't mind falling with, hehe.

BTW, if you like the LOTU series, you'll be happy to know some of the characters are in this book :) Also, don't forget to read the Q&A!

Questions & Answers with Gena Showalter

Zacharel is so hot! Did you have someone in mind when you created him?

GS: To be honest, I don’t know anyone who is as cold and (seemingly) heartless as Zacharel. He will do anything he thinks is necessary, no matter how dark the task, without a moment’s hesitation. His emotions are trapped beneath an icy shell, and he exists rather than lives. That is, until Annabelle Miller enters the picture. Suddenly he’s plagued by desires he’s only ever heard about and uncertain about what to do or how to act. Watching him shatter for this woman rather than melt… shiver! I loved it!

Who is your favorite angel from the Angels of the Dark Series, and why?

GS: I am most intrigued by Koldo. Even as tough and intense as he is, what he sacrifices for Zacharel in Wicked Nights… yeah, I was instantly smitten. And okay, yes, he made the sacrifice for all the wrong reasons (and I’m not gonna say what they are and spoil it!), but that was only because he hasn’t met the right woman. Whose name is Gina. Or Genna. <- decisions, decisions

What can we expect for the next Angels of the Dark book?

GS: Koldo’s book is next, and the title is Beauty Awakened. I don’t want to give any plot points away just yet (for those who haven’t yet read Wicked Nights) but I can tell you that I had Jason Momoa from ‘Game of Thrones’ in mind as I wrote Koldo’s character. He is all warrior. Intense. Sexy. give me! He is big and strong and menacing. Demons are frightened of him, and for good reason!

Thanks Gena! I can't wait to read Koldo's book :)

Book Review: A Secret Love by Stephanie Laurens

Author: Stephanie Laurens
Series: Cynster #5
Release Date: July 3rd 2000
Publisher: Avon Books
Age: Adult
All of Regency London knows that no Cynster male would ever walk away from a lady in distress...but their protection can come at a tantalizingly high price. And now, Stephanie Laurens has created her boldest Cynster yet--Gabriel--a man who has known the pleasure of many women, but who has given his heart to no one.

She was desperate for his help...When a mysterious lady, her face hidden by a black veil, begs Gabriel Cynster for his help, he cannot refuse her plea. For despite her disguise, Gabriel finds the woman alluring and he is powerless to deny her. But he exacts payment as only a Cynster would demand: with each piece of information he uncovers, she must pay him--in the form of a kiss.

He was powerlerss to resist...

Lady Alathea Morwellan knows Gabriel is intrigued, but despite the sparks that fly between them, they have never passed a civil moment together. Yet as the stakes get higher, so does Gabriel's desire for payment. And with each overpowering kiss, each passionate embrace, Alathea knows that she will not be able to resist his ultimate seduction...but what will happen when she reveals the truth?
I believe this is my first book from Stephanie Laurens, pero now I know why she's one of the favorite historical romance writers.

Alathea Morwellan has a huge problem. Her family's fortune is on danger. She's the only one who can save her family, like always, but she knows she need help from her friend, Gabriel Cynster.

Gabriel Cynster is, like every Cynster, looking for adventure. When a sexy woman asks for his help, he's is glad to help receiving kisses for payment. He doesn't know who she is, doesn't even think she's the same boring Alathea, but between kisses and an special perfume, he's going to get the surprise of his life.

I liked Alathea and Gabriel together. They were a hot couple, although I wanted them to realize they were made for each other sooner. I liked Gabriel's protectiveness and Alathea's character, but I got tired of the business they were trying to discover together to maintain Alathea's fortune. They concentrated to much on it and I wanted more acting between them, but in the end I liked how their relationship developed.

Although I felt it was a little bit longer than necessary, I enjoyed A Secret Love and Stephanie Laurens is on my good list of historical romance authors. I'm new to the Cynster series, but I'd like to read all the books. What do you think? Have you read the Cynster series?

Waiting on Wednesday # 102 - Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it’s that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting—or stealing—whatever they want.

No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale’s family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother’s billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there’s no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won’t let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother’s will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company’s fortune. So instead of being the heir—this time, Hale might be the mark.

Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she’s willing to save her boyfriend’s company if it means losing the boy.

Book Review: Charlotte's Web by E.B. White

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
Author: E.B. White
Release Date: May 15th, 1974
Publisher: HarperCollins
Age: Children
Some Pig

These are the words in Charlotte's Web, high in the barn. Her spiderweb tells of her feelings for a little pig named Wilbur, as well as the feelings of a little girl named Fern ... who loves Wilbur, too.
Such a cute book! I remember I watched the movie sometime ago, but when I saw the book at my niece's house, I decided I wanted to read it.

Now I know why people say Charlotte's Web is a classic. It's a very sweet story, about a little pig named Wilbur who is young and lonely and facing a very sad and scary Christmas ahead. But with the help of Charlotte, the barn spider,  he will be saved.

This is just the perfect example of how someone can change someone else life. When you really care, and make an effort, you can help another person. If you want to teach your kids about this, Charlotte's Web is the perfect book.

Overall, Charlotte's Web is a very cute and sweet book, already on my list to share with my kids (when I have them hehe).
